A message from Marcella Gomez, Associate Dean, DEI

The diversity of our staff, faculty, and students enriches all that we do. We are very grateful to all who bring their unique talents and perspectives to our community.

There are moments when global crises have such a deep and profound impact on members of our community that it bleeds into our research and learning communities. The protests and response happening in Iran represent such a time.

With the internet in Iran currently shut down, we are offering space for open communication. You are invited to join us for a gathering on Tuesday Oct 4th, 5pm on the west side of the E2 Lanai to show solidarity with the people of Iran.

We are deeply aware that this situation may be impacting your day-to-day life and your academic endeavors. For those in need of direct support, counseling services are available 24 hours a day and information can be found here. Have additional concerns? My door is open. Please feel free to connect with me through email (mgomez26@ucsc.edu) regarding any matter.
