Faculty Diversity Internship Program seeks Computer Science Faculty Intern


College of the Siskiyous is seeking a Faculty Intern in Computer Science for a year-long, remote internship aimed at providing aspiring community college faculty members insights about the California Community Colleges and the skills and knowledge they need to excel in online teaching. The internship is part of the Siskiyous’ Faculty Diversity Internship Program<https://www.siskiyous.edu/academicaffairs/fdip.htm> which also aims to increase the diversity of the Siskiyous’ faculty and enrich and improve our students’ experiences.



Our Computer Science Faculty Intern will meet regularly with a Faculty Mentor from the Siskiyous’ Computer Science Department throughout the 23-24 academic year. In the summer and fall of 2023, Interns will complete approximately 80 hours of online teaching training. In the spring of 2024, they will get hands-on experience assisting with their mentor’s online class (this could involve developing assignments or online learning units, participating in class discussions, organizing and attending student study groups or tutoring sessions, grading, etc.), attend a workshop, and complete and present an online teaching portfolio. All program requirements can be fulfilled remotely.



Interns will be paid a stipend of $1000 at the end of the fall semester and $29.64 per hour for up to 7 hours of work per week during the spring semester.



Candidates must:



1.      1.  Have an equity-minded focus, responsiveness, and sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students.

2. Be an enrolled graduate student who has completed at least 50% of a Master's or Doctoral degree in Computer Science or Computer Engineering


OR Bachelor’s in either of the above AND at least 50% of a Master’s of Doctoral degree in mathematics, cybernetics, business administration, accounting or engineering


OR Bachelor’s in engineering AND at least 50% of a Master’s or Doctoral degree in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration


OR Bachelor’s in mathematics AND at least 50% of a Master’s or Doctoral degree in cybernetics, engineering, mathematics, or business administration


OR Bachelor’s degree in any of the above AND at least 50% of a Master’s or Doctoral degree in information science, computer information systems, or information systems
