Slug Support Pantry Fall Hours

Graduate students will have access during all the open hours. The Basic Needs team has designated grad only pantry hours specifically on Tuesdays 3:45 - 6:00 pm. Grads should enter via the patio so that we can keep the front door of the coffee shop closed to avoid other students trickling in.

CS Research Mentorship Program

CS Research Mentorship Program is accepting applications now through November 18, 2020. CSRMP is a mentorship program that matches undergraduate and graduate students in the US and Canada from underrepresented groups with peers and a Google mentor to support their pursuit of computing research pathways.

DARPA I2O Postdoctoral Fellowship Program

This I2O RA is specifically focused on supporting research by computer science postdoctoral fellows to drive innovation in specific research areas detailed in the RA.  The research topics were selected from I2O PM submissions.  I2O provides this funding opportunity to address challenges to the career planning processes of PhD graduates and the faculty hiring process of U.S. institutions of higher education that are emerging due to the pandemic. This RA is intended to mitigate these adverse impacts and enhance the health of the U.S. computer science research workforce moving forward.

Participation is open to individuals who are U.S. Citizens or U.S. Permanent Residents: (1) who have received a PhD degree no earlier than June 2019 or (2) who will have received a PhD prior to the date of award, and (3) who will be appointed to a postdoctoral position at a U.S. institution of higher education (hereafter referred to as "university") during the 2021-22 academic year. This RA permits submission of the initial Technical Volume to be made prior to the formal appointment of the postdoctoral fellow. During the full proposal stage, the Principal Investigator at the university must be identified. Award is contingent on formal appointment of the identified eligible individual to a postdoctoral position prior to the time the award is made.

eBay's Machine Learning Competition for Students

For the second year, eBay is running a ML Challenge. The prize of the competition is an internship at eBay for the winning student or team.

The announcement attached describes the competition in more detail, but in a nutshell:

The question we invite you to address is how to identify two or more listings as being for the same product by putting them into the same group. We call this Purchase Level Equivalency (PLE). That is, if a buyer purchased two items from two different listings in a single group, they would assess that they had obtained two instances of the same product.

The competition started August 24. It is being hosted on EvalAI.

Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tracks at Sea Challenge

Announcing the Artificial Intelligence (AI) Tracks at Sea Challenge conducted by the Naval Information Warfare Center Pacific (NIWC PAC) and the Naval Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) Coordination Office, managed by the Office of Naval Research (ONR). 

The goal of this challenge is to engage with the workforce of tomorrow on relevant Naval problems. The need here is to augment unmanned surface vehicles’ (USVs’) maritime contact tracking capability.  The technology developed for this prize challenge will solve this problem by developing a computer vision system that will plot the tracks of shipping traffic exclusively using the passive sensing capability of onboard cameras. This technology would also be applicable for the Navy to document vessels performing unsafe navigation on the high seas.

NIWC PAC has established $200,000 as the total amount set aside for cash prizes under this challenge. Prizes will be awarded for the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th places in the amounts of $55,000, $45,000, $35,000, $30,000, $20,000, $10,000, and $5000 respectively. Prizes will be disbursed to the respective teams’ department, college, laboratory, or other eligible university component as specified by the consensus of the team.

The challenge kicks off on Oct. 1 and is open to students at accredited higher education institutions.

Rochester Institute of Technology Full-Time Tenure-Track Assistant Professor Position in Department of Computer Science

The Department of Computer Science at the Rochester Institute of Technology invites applications for full-time tenure-track assistant professor positions starting in Fall 2021. We are looking to hire in all areas of computer science that strengthen our department.  Applications are due January 2.  

Successful applicants are expected to contribute to the scholarship of the department and college through externally funded research and through teaching and mentoring of BS, MS, and PhD students.

We are seeking an individuals who have the ability and interest in contributing to RIT’s core values, honor code, and diversity commitment.    

The Department: Computer Science (http://cs.rit.edu) is the largest department at RIT. Our student-centered programs are home to nearly 1,400 students pursuing BS, MS, BS/MS, and PhD degrees. Computer Science Lecturer - University of Nebraska at Omaha

The University of Nebraska at Omaha (UNO) is inviting applications for a lecturer position in Computer Science, with primary responsibilities for teaching courses in the systems area (systems programming, digital design, computer architecture, operating systems, etc.). The position starts in Spring 2021. We are looking for prospective applicants who have completed (or are about to complete) a graduate degree (MS or PhD) in Computer Science or related fields.  We especially welcome applications from women and underrepresented minorities.

UNO is an urban metropolitan school in Omaha, the largest city in Nebraska. The UNO Computer Science department currently has 23 full-time faculty and is looking to grow to accommodate increased enrollments in the CS degree programs.
