Master's Funding Opportunity!

The University of Pennsylvania in partnership with 9 other institutions make up the Center for Engineering MechanoBiology <https://cemb.upenn.edu/> (CEMB). This interdisciplinary, visionary center is funded by the National Science Foundation (NSF) to advance the study of mechanical forces in molecules, cells, and tissues. We have launched a new fellowship program for STEM Master’s students who have a strong interest in conducting research and pursuing a PhD upon graduation. The goal of this fellowship program is to increase the number of underrepresented minorities pursuing graduate degrees in STEM-related fields, and establish long-lasting collaborations with faculty at Minority Serving Institutions (MSI) institutions.

Accepted fellows will conduct a collaborative thesis project with faculty
from their home institution and the CEMB. The summer following their first
year in a master's program, fellows will conduct research in the CEMB
collaborator’s lab. They will return to their home institution for the
second year of their master’s program. The program will offer monthly
mentoring and networking opportunities to prepare fellows for research,
grad school applications, and the PhD path. This is a co-mentorship
program, and will not remove the student from their home institution.

This is a great funding opportunity to support a master’s student in your
lab: fellows will receive a 1-year stipend of approximately $31,600 and
$10,000 in funds to support research at their home institution and travel
to collaborating labs and conferences.

SOCCCD Launches Faculty Internship Program - B.L.O.O.M. - Applications Now Open!

SOCCCD is launching a Faculty Internship Program—Building Leadership Opportunities through Outstanding Mentorship (B.L.O.O.M.)

Here at SOCCCD, we strive to provide a welcoming and inclusive environment. Part of that vision includes diversifying our staff and faculty groups to better represent our student population. With that in mind, we are excited to launch B.L.O.O.M. where interns interested in teaching at a community college will be paired with mentors who will provide an immersive experience related to developing curricula, engaging students, and establishing inclusive environments. Mentors will also offer insight into faculty service, professional development, and training opportunities outside the classroom. Additionally, interns will receive a $500 stipend.The intent of the B.L.O.O.M. program is to increase the diversity pipeline of future community college faculty within SOCCCD and/or other California Community Colleges.

With the internet in Iran currently shut down, we are offering space for open communication. You are invited to join us for a gathering on Tuesday Oct 4th, 5pm on the west side of the E2 Lanai to show solidarity with the people of Iran. 

We are deeply aware that this situation may be impacting your day-to-day life and your academic endeavors. The foundation does not award fellowships based on an applicant’s particular field of study; however, they do require that applicants direct their work toward understanding and solving major, near-term problems facing society. The applicant should advocate for their specific field of study and demonstrate how it will be applied to address real-world challenges with the greatest impact.

Eligibility:

All eligible applicants must:

●         be college seniors, first-year graduate students, or in a gap year preparing to apply to graduate school;

●         be citizens or permanent residents of the United States.

Hertz does not award fellowships to applicants pursuing professional degrees other than a PhD, such as an MD, JD, MBA, DPH, or DVM. However, they will support the PhD portion of an MD/PhD program.

Award Amount & Terms

The Hertz Fellowship compensation package includes a cost-of-education allowance and a personal stipend valued at up to $250,000.

SUMMER PROGRAM FOR OPERATIONS RESEARCH TECHNOLOGY (SPORT)

PROGRAM OVERVIEW 

The Summer Program for Operations Research Technology (SPORT) at the National Security Agency (NSA) offers graduate students the opportunity to apply their academic knowledge in a stimulating professional environment. As a SPORT intern, you will work closely with full-time Operations Research, Modeling and Simulation analysts applying technical skills you learned in the classroom to challenging, real-world problems supporting the mission of the NSA. You will develop and practice strong communication and leadership skills by interacting with and presenting your findings directly to your fellow interns, project sponsors, and NSA senior leadership.

PROGRAM DATES 

All NSA Summer Programs are 12 weeks long, with flexibility considered for academic schedule conflicts. The SPORT program begins in late May or early June and concludes in mid-August (dates vary by year).

• Must be enrolled in MS (combined BS/MS also accepted) or PhD program in an area closely related to operations research, such as applied mathematics, decision analysis, statistics, data analytics, industrial engineering, systems engineering, or computer engineering. 

• Current undergraduate students will not be accepted. 

• Applicants must be returning to school for at least one semester following the conclusion of the summer internship (no exceptions) 

• Applicants must successfully complete an extensive background investigation and polygraph to obtain a security clearance

President Harry S. Truman Fellowship in National Security Science and Engineering

Sandia National Laboratories is seeking applicants for the President Harry S. Truman
Postdoctoral Fellowship in National Security Science and Engineering. Candidates
for this position have solved a challenging scientific or engineering problem in their
thesis work or to have provided a new approach or insight to a challenging problem, as
evidenced by a recognized impact in their field.

The Fellowship provides the opportunity for new Ph.D. scientists and engineers
to pursue independent research of their own choosing that supports Sandia’s
national security mission. The fellow is expected to foster creativity and to stimulate
explorations at the forefront of science and technology and high-risk, potentially
high-value research and development.

Sandia’s research focus areas are: bioscience, computing and information science,
engineering science, materials science, nanodevices and microsystems, radiation effects

PwC - New project/challenge for students

We just launched a project/challenge with PwC about designing a marketing campaign that inspires 50,000 Black and Latinx students to complete an online Digital Upskilling curriculum.

This challenge has a larger prize amount of $5000. The top 5 winners will receive $500 each and the next 25 honorable mentions will receive $100 each. The challenge ends in about 25 days and requires students to take one of PwC’s quick courses and provide feedback and a campaign based on the course the students took (the course is free of charge). Rural Commute Study

Hi all!

We are researchers with Baskin Engineering at UCSC conducting a study to explore the experiences and challenges of people who commute to/from rural areas of San Lorenzo Valley (e.g., Felton, Ben Lomond, Boulder Creek, Brookdale, Bonny Doon) and sub/urban areas. This study involves an approximately 1 hour interview. Upon successful completion of the study, participants will receive a $40 gift certificate at either Amazon, Target, Starbucks or Walmart. The Rockefeller University - Fellow Position

The Center for Studies in Physics and Biology, at The Rockefeller University, expects to have a small number of postdoctoral fellowships available for appointments in September 2023. Postdoc Opportunity at the University of Arizona
